The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has committed $912 million to The Global Fund to fight HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria. Announcing this pledge, Bill Gates also urged the U.S. government to reconsider its decision to cut funding for foreign aid programs. He further called upon other national governments to bolster their support for global disease prevention efforts.

Gates emphasized that millions of children`s lives are currently at risk, presenting global leaders with a rare, once-in-decades opportunity to undertake something truly monumental. According to Gates, leaders face a critical choice: either drastically reduce healthcare spending or ensure children worldwide have the chance for a healthy life they deserve. This fundamental decision, he stressed, will shape the future for generations to come.

Data from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation reveals that global health program funding has declined by 21% over the past year, reaching a 15-year low. The Global Fund`s own financing also saw a 14.4% reduction within the year, despite some countries attempting to compensate for shortfalls caused by decreased contributions from other nations. Notably, Bill Gates provided a similar amount to The Global Fund in 2022.
