A Russian woman reported a sharp increase in prices in Iran after the armed conflict.
Olga Lavrentyeva, a blogger and fitness trainer residing in Tehran, shared a video on social media detailing the price changes following the Iran-Israel conflict. According to her account, prices for many essential goods have significantly increased.
She provided several examples: The price of rice, which cost 145 rubles per kilogram (converted from local currency), has risen to 245 rubles. Bread increased dramatically from 1.6 rubles to 8 rubles, a fivefold jump. Sunflower oil`s cost went up from 218 rubles to 315 rubles. Legumes saw a price hike from 143 rubles to 327 rubles. Cheese prices climbed from 250 rubles per kg to 357 rubles.
Olga states that people are in shock due to the widespread increases, with prices doubling or even tripling for many items. She attributes this to a sharp depreciation of the local currency, which has directly impacted the cost of goods. The items that saw the biggest price hikes include bread, yogurt, legumes, all types of grains, as well as vegetables and fruits.
Amidst concerns about product shortages, Iran has implemented restrictions on purchasing certain items per person.
For instance, limits have been placed on canned tuna and sunflower oil, with customers allowed to buy no more than two units of each. Olga noted that while some individuals might be stocking up in anticipation of further price hikes, there haven`t been significant queues in stores yet.
Such substantial price increases are expected to have a significant negative impact on the living standards of local residents, especially considering the average monthly salary in the country is reportedly only around 20,000 rubles.
