RIO DE JANEIRO – Leaders of the BRICS nations have expressed their opposition to an arms race in space and are proposing the creation of a specific document to address this, according to the final declaration issued at the summit.
The document states: «We also reaffirm support for ensuring the long-term sustainability of outer space activities and preventing an arms race in outer space (PAROS) and the weaponization of outer space, as well as supporting the prevention of the threat or use of force against space objects, including through negotiations for the adoption of a relevant multilateral legal instrument aimed at ensuring global security.»
