Russia`s Minister of Health, Mikhail Murashko, announced a significant reduction in mortality from cardiovascular diseases in the country, with a nearly 34% decrease observed since the year 2000. Over the past six years alone, the number of deaths among patients suffering from circulatory system diseases has fallen by 28,500 people, the minister added.
Speaking at the Russian National Congress of Cardiologists, Murashko emphasized, «Thanks to the state`s efforts, for two consecutive years, we have maintained a historically low level of mortality from circulatory system diseases.»
Furthermore, the minister highlighted that over the last six years, deaths from myocardial infarction have decreased by 25%, and those from acute cerebrovascular accidents (strokes) have dropped by 18%. Among patients with circulatory system diseases under regular medical dispensary observation, the fatality rate has seen a 33% reduction. Despite these positive trends, nearly 14 million new cases of circulatory system diseases were identified during dispensary examinations in the first six months of 2025, which represents an 11% increase compared to the same period in 2024.
Murashko also stated that the proportion of patients at high risk of cardiovascular complications receiving free medication is projected to reach 98% by 2030.
