State Duma Deputy Anton Nemkin has reported a significant increase in fraudulent activities targeting Russians in the lead-up to Russia Day. He warned that scammers are most frequently attempting to deceive citizens through fake prize draws offering monetary rewards.
Nemkin elaborated that a very common tactic involves sending messages supposedly from government bodies, such as «Mintsifry,» the «Gosuslugi» portal, or a «Unified Payment Center.» These messages invite users to participate in a brief survey promising a holiday «bonus.» The ultimate goal is to direct individuals to phishing websites to harvest personal information and banking credentials.
He also noted a rise in other types of scams, including those where fraudsters pose as bank or law enforcement employees, and the creation of fraudulent charity websites.
Earlier reports indicated that scammers have also started utilizing remote access applications as a method to steal funds from people in Russia.
