A video clip purporting to show a massive asteroid colliding with the Moon has been widely shared online, but a leading expert confirms it is entirely fabricated using artificial intelligence. Stanislav Korotky, scientific director of the Ka-Dar Observatory and Astrovert Astronomy Farm, stated unequivocally that the footage bears no resemblance to reality.
The video, which depicts a large asteroid striking the Earth`s natural satellite, has gained considerable popularity across platforms like Telegram and other social media. Captions accompanying the footage erroneously claim that NASA successfully recorded this significant event.
«This was created by AI and has no basis in reality,» Korotky affirmed, debunking the viral content.
The expert pointed to several inconsistencies that reveal the video`s inauthenticity. These include the asteroid`s depicted size and astonishing speed, discrepancies with the known topography of lunar craters, and the unusually mushroom-shaped cloud of ejecta following the supposed impact.
Further analysis of the video reveals that the asteroid appears to traverse a distance equivalent to the Moon`s diameter in a mere three seconds. This suggests a minimum velocity of 1,000 kilometers per second, a speed that vastly surpasses even the fastest meteors observed in Earth`s orbit, reinforcing the artificial nature of the footage.
