Cybercriminals are actively exploiting job advertisements to distribute malware on Android devices. Security company F6, via its Telegram channel, has detailed these common fraudulent schemes and provided essential recommendations for protecting against virus threats.
According to F6, scammers post remote job offers online. When a user expresses interest, they are sent a link to a phishing website designed to look like Google Play. The victim is then prompted to download a malicious application disguised as a legitimate one. This malware enables criminals to intercept SMS messages and push notifications, and steal sensitive banking card information.
F6 also warns against participating in paid online surveys. In this scheme, scammers, posing as representatives of large organizations, offer monetary rewards for completing a survey. The ultimate goal is to persuade the Android user to install an app specifically designed to steal SMS messages and contact information.
To protect against malware, F6 strongly recommends using reliable antivirus software and regularly updating operating systems and all installed applications. Apps should only be downloaded from official and trusted sources, such as Google Play. Additionally, the company advises extreme caution with incoming content: always avoid opening suspicious attachments and clicking on unfamiliar links in emails and instant messengers.
Earlier, the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs had also listed common signs of device virus infection. These notably included the appearance of unfamiliar applications on the phone that the owner did not install, signaling potential compromise.
