Academician Denis Logunov, who previously served as Deputy Director for Scientific Work, has been appointed as the new Director of the N.F. Gamaleya National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology.

Health Minister Mikhail Murashko explained to reporters that Alexander Gintsburg, who had led the center for nearly 30 years, will continue his work at the institute as the Scientific Supervisor.
During a meeting with the center`s management, Minister Murashko thanked Academician Gintsburg for his significant, long-term contributions to the development of national science and the collective effort to combat infectious threats.
The New Director: Denis Logunov
Denis Logunov is 47 years old. He was elected as a Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) in 2016, achieving the rank of full Academician in 2022.
His scientific specialization centers on the creation of recombinant viral vaccines and gene therapy preparations. Under his guidance, the center successfully developed the `GamEvac` and `GamEvac-Combi` medications designed to fight the Ebola fever. These vaccines are currently officially registered and approved for therapeutic use.
Alexander Gintsburg`s Legacy
Alexander Gintsburg began his tenure at the Research Center in 1982 as a senior researcher within the plasmid genetics laboratory, eventually taking over the institute’s leadership in 1997. Mr. Gintsburg is widely recognized as a foremost expert in the fields of molecular biology and the genetics of pathogenic microorganisms. Crucially, under his direction, the Gamaleya Center created the world-renowned Covid-19 vaccine, “Sputnik V.”
