Since the beginning of 2025, almost 6 million Russian citizens have undergone reproductive health check-ups as part of the national health screening program, announced Ilya Balanin, head of the Federal Compulsory Medical Insurance Fund (FOMS). He noted that while 6.7 million Russians had these preventative examinations throughout the entire year of 2024, the 6 million milestone for 2025 was reached within just the first five months.

«Essentially, the level achieved over a full year last year has been reached very actively by our citizens within just five months this year,» Balanin stated during a roundtable discussion held by the Federation Council Committee on Social Policy.

The state officially incorporated reproductive health assessments into its free national health screenings starting in 2024. Announcing this new initiative, Vice-Premier Tatyana Golikova explained that the focus on reproductive health was driven by a desire to «take care of every Russian family and every member of that family.» The screening is available to men and women aged 18 to 49.

In late January 2025, President Vladimir Putin instructed the Ministry of Health to revise the procedures for medical examinations for both adults and children. He specified that the goal of these changes was to enable earlier detection of reproductive health issues. Following the amended Ministry of Health order, reproductive health checks for children are set to begin from age 6, starting September 1, 2025.
