Preview Fraud Alert: Russians Warned About OGE/EGE Retake Scams

Experts from the «Informzashchita» holding have reported that a fraudulent scheme targeting students taking the OGE and EGE exams became active in late June and early July 2025. They alerted the public to this new scam.

According to the specialists, the scammers impersonate employees of Rosobrnadzor (the Russian education oversight body), schools, or exam supervisors. They offer a guaranteed passing score on the exams in exchange for a fee. They employ several tactics to trick their victims.

In one tactic, the scammer contacts individuals by phone, falsely claiming they received poor exam results. They then offer a chance to retake the test on a date of their choice, promising high scores. Experts say these criminals demand a payment starting from 50,000 rubles for this service.

Another tactic involves sending phishing emails, seemingly from Rosobrnadzor, informing recipients that they failed their exams. The email offers a paid opportunity to retake the test on a preferred date. If the victim clicks a link in the email, they are directed to a fake exam registration page where they pay for the «retake,» typically starting from 4,000 rubles. After payment, they receive no further communication.

According to the experts, at least 150 similar incidents have been reported in Moscow alone since mid-June.
