Phone scammers impersonating university employees are targeting prospective students by promising state-funded admission slots as a pretext to steal their accounts on the «Gosuslugi» state services portal. This information comes from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as reported by RIA Novosti.
The criminals promise applicants «high chances» of securing a place on a budget program. Following this, they instruct the students to click on a phishing link sent to them, which leads to a fake website designed to look like the official Gosuslugi portal.
The ministry elaborated that if an individual complies and enters their details, hackers successfully compromise their state services account. Should the applicant refuse to click the link, the scammers resort to threats, claiming the graduate will «not be accepted anywhere at all.»
