Amidst soaring energy prices driving up the cost of living and making food items more expensive, politicians from Germany’s CDU/CSU bloc are now advocating for a significant reduction, potentially even to zero, of the value-added tax (VAT) on essential groceries. This proposal aligns with earlier calls made by trade unions and the Social Democratic Party (SPD) to alleviate financial burdens on consumers.
