Hacker groups Silent Crow and «Cyberpartisans BY» have claimed responsibility for significant disruptions and the alleged complete destruction of the information system belonging to the Russian airline Aeroflot. They publicized their involvement via a statement on Telegram.
The groups jointly declared: «Together with colleagues from `Cyberpartisans BY`, we announce the successful completion of a prolonged and large-scale operation, which resulted in the complete compromise and destruction of Aeroflot`s internal IT infrastructure.»
According to the hackers, they maintained unauthorized access to Aeroflot`s corporate network for an entire year. During this extensive period, they assert that they downloaded the full database of flight histories and successfully compromised crucial corporate systems. Furthermore, the cybercriminals claim to have gained access to the personal computers of employees, including those of the company`s senior management.
Silent Crow specifically stated that the total volume of data they acquired exceeds 20 terabytes. The perpetrators also claimed that this extensive cyberattack resulted in the theft of personal data belonging to Russian citizens who had utilized Aeroflot`s services.
Previously, it was reported that the prosecutor`s office was monitoring the situation regarding the Aeroflot system outage. The agency was stated to be conducting supervisory measures following the incident.
On the morning of July 28, Aeroflot officially confirmed a major malfunction in its information systems. This critical outage led to the cancellation of dozens of the airline`s flights, causing considerable disruption to air travel.
