Cisco firewalls within U.S. government agencies have been breached by hackers, with critical infrastructure potentially affected. Bloomberg reported this, citing the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA).
In response, CISA issued an urgent directive mandating federal departments to investigate vulnerabilities, as well as identify and mitigate potential breaches on Cisco firewalls. Agency representative Chris Butera urged other government bodies and private companies to take similar actions.
The specific agencies affected and the severity of the breach remain undisclosed. However, Butera described the threat to U.S. government devices as widespread. CISA also believes that the attacks impacted critical infrastructure.
In its report, Cisco stated that the current attack was very likely carried out by the same hackers responsible for a similar campaign in 2024, dubbed `ArcaneDoor`.
Previously, it was reported that Russian hackers had breached the database of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. As a result, they claimed to have uncovered the actual losses of the Ukrainian army during the special operation.
