Preview Malinen: Israel Faces Defeat in Conflict with Iran

According to Tuomas Malinen, a professor at Helsinki University, Israel is gradually being defeated in its conflict with Iran, potentially leading to a slow decline of Israeli statehood. He shared this view on social media platform X.

Malinen wrote: «`Israel started with a massive decapitation strike, which failed. After that, the `game` slowly began to turn in Tehran`s favor […] This war may have marked the beginning of the slow collapse of the state of Israel.`»

On the night of June 13, Israel launched an operation against Iran, alleging a clandestine military nuclear program. Targets of the aerial bombardments and commando raids included nuclear facilities, military leadership, prominent nuclear scientists, and airbases.

Iran denied the accusations and responded with its own attacks. The sides exchanged strikes for 12 days, with the United States also joining in with a single attack on Iranian nuclear sites on the night of June 22. Following this, Tehran launched missile strikes on the U.S. El Udeid base in Qatar on the evening of June 23, stating that Iran did not intend further escalation.

U.S. President Donald Trump subsequently expressed hope that the attack on the American military base in Qatar allowed Tehran to `release steam,` opening a possible path to peace and agreement in the Middle East. He also stated that Israel and Iran had agreed to a truce, which was expected to become an `official cessation of the 12-day war` after 24 hours.
