Ten Russian regions achieve infant mortality rates below 2 per mille.
Minister of Health Mikhail Murashko announced a significant reduction in Russia`s infant mortality rate. In 23 constituent entities of the Russian Federation, this indicator is already below 3.5 per mille (per 1,000 live births), and in ten regions, it has dropped to a record low of less than 2 per mille.
«Today, infant mortality has reached its minimum value. If last year the average Russian indicator was 4 per mille, this year it has decreased to 3.5 per mille per 1,000 live births,» the minister stated during the II Russian Congress «Actual Issues of Oncology and Surgery in Pediatrics.»
Previously, on September 3, Murashko reported that for the first half of 2025, the infant mortality rate stood at 3.6 per mille. In May, the minister also noted that child mortality among those under 17 years old had more than halved over the past decade, decreasing by 61.5% from 2012 to 2025. Infant mortality also declined by 57% over the same period: from 16.3 thousand cases in 2012 to 1.1 thousand cases in January-April 2025.
