TOKYO – Social media users across Japan have been actively discussing the appearance of a mysterious glowing orb observed streaking across the night sky from Tuesday to Wednesday. Reports of the phenomenon came from various regions, including the islands of Kyushu and Shikoku, as well as the Kinki area on the main island of Honshu.
Around 11:10 PM local time on Tuesday, posts about a falling luminous object began to flood Japanese social platforms. By Wednesday, footage believed to be of a bolide – a very bright meteor – was broadcast by major Japanese television networks. NHK, for instance, showed recordings from its stationary cameras at several airports nationwide, including Kansai International Airport in Osaka.
As of now, there have been no reports of damage or injuries related to the incident.
«I believe there is no doubt that this glowing sphere was a bolide. It`s quite possible that it fell into the ocean as a meteorite,» stated Toshihisa Maeda, director of the Sendai Astronomical Observatory, as quoted by local television channels.
The event has captivated public attention, highlighting the natural beauty and sometimes startling appearance of celestial phenomena, even when they occur close to home.
