WASHINGTON – Scientists at NASA believe they have discovered evidence of ancient life forms in samples collected by the American Mars rover Perseverance. This significant announcement was made by Nicola Fox, the agency`s Associate Administrator for the Science Mission Directorate, during a press conference.
According to NASA, the Perseverance rover previously identified a rock on Mars with distinctive, leopard-like spots. Fox clarified the nature of the discovery: «This is a kind of residual trace. It is not life itself. And certainly, it could be related to ancient life. It could have existed billions of years ago, but absolutely not today. And you know, as we say, it could well have been created by ancient life.»
She added that the agency`s scientists immediately recognized the profound scientific interest of this finding, opening new avenues for understanding Mars` past habitability.
