Brevard County, Florida – Ken Bowersox, the Deputy Administrator of NASA, emphasized the critical need for continued collaboration between Russia and the United States to ensure the safe deorbiting of the International Space Station (ISS).

Speaking at a press conference, Bowersox stated that the process of safely bringing the aging orbital laboratory down to Earth requires the concerted efforts of all international partners, with a particular focus on cooperation between Russia and America.

This statement follows previous remarks from Dmitry Bakanov, the head of Roscosmos, who confirmed that the deorbiting procedure for the ISS is scheduled to occur by the end of 2030. While Russia has committed to operating its segment of the ISS until 2028, other participating nations have expressed a desire to extend their involvement until 2030.

Bakanov further detailed that a comprehensive plan for the controlled deorbit of the ISS has been developed. He projected that this complex operation would span approximately two and a half years.
