Preview New Wave of Scam Calls Impersonating Russian Post Reported by State Duma

A new surge in scam calls impersonating «Russian Post» is being recorded in Russia, stated Anton Nemkin, a member of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technologies and Communications.

The deputy confirmed: «Recently, there has been a noticeable increase in fraudulent calls where attackers pose as postal service employees.»

He described a typical scenario: scammers call, claiming to be from a sorting center, and report an issue with a package or delivery error. Then they suggest moving the conversation to a Telegram bot to «clarify details» or «verify identity» through services like «Gosuslugi» (State Services) or «Pochta ID». Nemkin emphasized that this is the stage where personal data theft occurs.

Nemkin reminded that government services, including «Russian Post» and «Gosuslugi», never request data via messenger bots, and any request to log in via external links is a sign of fraud.

Separately, the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs recently warned teenagers about a scam where fraudsters convince them they failed a psychological test and the results were published. To «fix» this, a phishing link is sent; upon opening it, the victim sees some of their personal data, which makes the deception more convincing.
