Scientists in Colombia have announced the discovery of a previously unknown branch of the human lineage. This groundbreaking finding, reported by Reuters, emerged from comprehensive DNA sequencing of ancient remains unearthed at archaeological sites near Bogotá, the nation`s capital.

The newly identified group of ancient people has been named Chequa, after the specific region where their skeletal remains were first recovered in 1992. Andrea Casas, a lead researcher from the Genetics Institute at the National University of Colombia, explained that their team meticulously compared the Chequa DNA analysis with other ancient human findings across the American continent. The results unequivocally confirmed that the Chequa possess a distinct evolutionary ancestry, entirely new to scientific understanding.
