Authorities urge Apple users to adopt key security practices to safeguard their personal data and accounts from fraudsters.

In response to growing cybersecurity threats, a recent advisory, disseminated via the «Herald of the Cyberpolice of Russia» Telegram channel by the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), has provided crucial guidance for Apple device owners. The recommendations focus on configuring Apple ID accounts to bolster data protection against potential scammers.
Key Security Measures for Apple Users:
- Robust Password Management: Users are strongly advised against storing passwords directly in web browsers or simple note applications. Instead, employing a dedicated password manager is highly recommended for secure storage and generation of strong, unique passwords.
- Discreet Personal Information: When setting up or updating account profiles, users should refrain from entering highly accurate personal details such as their exact date of birth. This sensitive information can be exploited by fraudsters attempting to gain unauthorized access to accounts.
- Safeguarding Financial Data: It is critical to avoid saving bank card details within your Apple account. Should your account be compromised, this proactive measure prevents criminals from accessing your financial information.
- Regular Device Management: Periodically review and remove any old or unused devices linked to your Apple ID. This practice minimizes potential entry points for unauthorized access and enhances overall account security.
- iCloud Data Analysis Control: Consider disabling iCloud data analysis. As emphasized by the advisory, «This prevents Apple from using your data for statistics and service improvement, thereby maintaining your privacy.»
This comprehensive advice follows previous recommendations from the MIA, which suggested that individuals adopt unconventional responses when interacting with suspected scammers to deter them and make them lose interest.
