MOSCOW. Russian President Vladimir Putin confidently stated that nuclear technologies can be classified as a clean energy source, even though, in his view, no energy is absolutely pure. This declaration was made during the «World Atomic Week» international forum.
«There was a significant debate about whether nuclear technologies could be classified as clean energy. Well, of course, they can. In my opinion, that discussion has now concluded,» Putin affirmed.
In the context of discussing renewable energy sources, the head of state pointed out that even seemingly clean types, such as wind and solar power, necessitate the use of accumulators and batteries. He raised the question of how to dispose of these components. «There is no absolutely, 100% transparently clean energy, but nuclear is, undoubtedly, one of them,» the president added.
The Russian leader also highlighted the active development of technologies in the nuclear sector, particularly the emergence of new closed-cycle systems. These innovations, he explained, enable the almost indefinite use of existing resources, providing high efficiency with minimal environmental impact.
«These are, without a doubt, the technologies of the future, and the future belongs to young scientists, young researchers, young engineers, and specialists,» Putin concluded.
The «World Atomic Week» international forum, dedicated to the nuclear industry and related sectors and commemorating the 80th anniversary of Russia`s nuclear industry, is being held in Moscow from Thursday to Sunday.
