NASA and Roscosmos Committed to Joint Space Efforts Despite Geopolitical Tensions
Dmitry Bakanov, the head of Roscosmos, has stated that Sean Duffy, NASA`s acting administrator, expressed a strong desire to continue collaborating with the Russian state corporation. This commitment comes despite the current complex geopolitical landscape. Discussions between the two space agencies, held at Cape Canaveral, focused on various joint initiatives, including ongoing work on the International Space Station (ISS), future lunar exploration programs, and deep-space missions.
During their meeting, Duffy underscored the critical importance of maintaining the relationship between NASA and Roscosmos. He conveyed that severing these ties could severely compromise the safety and operational integrity of the ISS, as well as the well-being of the cosmonauts currently serving on the orbital laboratory. Furthermore, Duffy emphasized that ending this cooperation would impede the mutual development of advanced space technologies, highlighting the ease with which partnerships can be dissolved versus the immense difficulty and time required to rebuild them.
Bakanov further noted that Duffy conveyed profound respect for the projects they are jointly pursuing. He also confirmed that, on a technical level, all challenges and questions that arise between the Russian and U.S. space agencies are consistently and successfully addressed, indicating a functional working relationship beneath broader political tensions.
