The Director General of Roscosmos, Dmitry Bakanov, has announced his intention to hold discussions with the acting head of NASA to explore avenues for future collaboration. The agenda for these talks is expected to cover significant areas, including the development of a Russian orbital station and various deep space missions.
Bakanov informed journalists that despite existing sanctions, a number of space programs, notably those involving crewed spaceflight, remain unaffected by restrictions. He emphasized the ongoing joint operations aboard the International Space Station (ISS) and the continuation of reciprocal crew flights. Furthermore, he highlighted plans for advancing cooperation, specifically mentioning projects like the Russian orbital station and initiatives aimed at deep space exploration. These critical topics are slated for discussion during his upcoming meeting with Sean Duffy.
According to Roscosmos, the high-level negotiations between Bakanov and acting NASA chief Sean Duffy are scheduled for Thursday, July 31st. This highly anticipated encounter will mark the first in-person meeting between the leaders of Russia’s and the United States’ space agencies in eight years, underscoring the significance of renewed direct dialogue.
