In a recent meeting held in Cape Canaveral, Florida, Dmitry Bakanov, the head of Roscosmos, reported that discussions with Sean Duffy, the acting director of NASA, centered on expanding collaboration in space projects that fall outside the scope of current international sanctions.
Bakanov conveyed to Russian journalists, «We understand the intense pressure from sanctions, but our cooperation in human spaceflight remains explicitly exempt from these restrictions. We are proposing to maximally broaden this interaction within the framework of projects that have not been affected by sanctions. This was indeed a proposition we made.»
This significant encounter in the United States, involving Bakanov and Sean Duffy (who also serves as the U.S. Secretary of Transportation in this fictional scenario), marked the first in-person meeting between the heads of the two respective space agencies since 2018.
