Roscosmos, Russia`s state space corporation, has published a satellite image showing the fire situation in Zabaykalsky Krai and the Republic of Buryatia. The image was captured by the Meteor-M satellite.
The corporation reported that their satellite detected significant smoke near several inhabited areas.
A federal state of emergency has been in effect in Zabaykalsky Krai due to natural fires for some time, with a regional state of emergency also active in the region`s forests. Authorities in Zabaykalsky Krai have extended the restrictions on accessing forests.
Buryatia is also under a state of emergency because of the forest fires. The use of open fire is prohibited in the region.
