Dmitry Bakanov, the Director General of Roscosmos, has announced the state corporation`s intention to conduct auctions for historic items and equipment that have returned from space missions. The funds generated from these sales will be dedicated to charitable causes, responding to a notable demand from collectors for such unique artifacts.

Bakanov revealed that there is significant interest among the public and various market participants for items previously used or decommissioned by Roscosmos facilities. Many of these items are currently stored in basements. «Our goal is to begin selling them for philanthropic purposes,» he explained during an interview on RBC TV, highlighting the potential to convert stored assets into social good.

He specified that the proceeds from these auctions are earmarked for financing educational trips for schoolchildren to participate in Olympiads and providing grants to promising university students, thereby investing in future generations of scientists and engineers.

The head of Roscosmos also noted that the corporation frequently receives requests from collectors eager to acquire specific pieces, such as a cosmonaut`s glove or an autographed spacesuit. He emphasized the crucial importance of ensuring that the entire sales process is conducted with utmost transparency and in an open manner to maintain trust and credibility.
