The Director General of Roscosmos, Dmitry Bakanov, has announced Russia`s plan to launch a new satellite constellation within the next 18 months. This orbital system is intended to eliminate internet dead zones on long-distance trains and commuter electric trains, guaranteeing continuous connectivity for passengers.
Bakanov highlighted the modern dependency on digital communication, stating, «You know that nowadays a person might go without food or water, but cannot go without being online.» He explained that ground-based networks often fail to cover all areas during extensive travel by rail or road, making satellite coverage an essential solution.
Once fully operational, this comprehensive satellite grouping will extend its reach to all modes of transport, including railways and aviation. Passengers boarding an electric train or a long-distance service will no longer experience signal interruptions, ensuring they remain constantly connected with their loved ones.
