The Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) continues to closely monitor the situation regarding the spread of Chikungunya fever, particularly in light of an outbreak in Foshan City, Guangdong Province, China. The agency has confirmed that no imported cases of this infection have been registered on Russian territory. Furthermore, according to expert assessments, the country lacks the conditions conducive to the epidemiological spread of the virus.

Rospotrebnadzor representatives clarified that the Russian Federation does not possess the necessary conditions for the sustained circulation of the virus among local blood-sucking insects, which are the primary carriers of Chikungunya. For prompt detection of the disease, sufficient quantities of domestically produced test systems are available.

Chikungunya fever is a viral disease transmitted to humans through the bites of specific mosquito species. Key symptoms include a sudden rise in body temperature up to 40°C, severe headaches, and muscle and joint pain. Generally, the infection does not lead to severe complications but can pose a risk to elderly individuals and those with compromised immune systems. Earlier in May, the Russian Embassy in Sri Lanka, citing the local Ministry of Health, reported an active outbreak of this virus on the island.
