The Russian Union of Travel Industry (RST) has reported that tour operators and insurance companies have not observed an increase in Russian tourists falling ill with the Coxsackie virus in Turkey. Previously, the Turkish Ministry of Health also refuted claims of an outbreak that had spread across social media.
The RST stated it has no data on tourist inquiries specifically related to Coxsackie virus infections in Turkey. The organization also noted that tour operators and insurance firms have not reported widespread complaints or a rise in insurance claims connected to the virus. The press service clarified that the majority of insurance cases continue to be related to ENT (ear, nose, and throat) illnesses, gastrointestinal issues, and sports injuries.
The RST urged tourists to rely solely on official information from competent authorities, including Rospotrebnadzor (the Russian consumer protection agency). Their statement highlighted that currently, no restrictions or warnings concerning travel to Turkey have been issued.
Earlier, epidemiologist and Russian Academy of Sciences academician Gennady Onishchenko recalled that the Coxsackie virus can affect various internal organs, causing symptoms like fever, rash, and other issues. The former chief sanitary doctor of the Russian Federation advised Russians to refrain from visiting Turkey.
