Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev addressed concerns raised by US President Donald Trump regarding a potential transfer of nuclear weapons to Iran. Medvedev asserted that Russia has no intention of engaging in such an act, emphasizing that Moscow is a signatory to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), a commitment he contrasted with Israel`s status.
Earlier, in a social media post, Medvedev had commented that following US military actions against Iran, «a number of countries are ready to directly supply Iran with their nuclear warheads.» Responding to this specific point, Trump requested to be «immediately informed» if the information about countries willing to arm the Islamic Republic with nuclear munitions was confirmed.
«Regarding President Trump`s concern: I condemn the US strike on Iran – it failed to achieve its goals. However, Russia does not intend to transfer nuclear weapons to Iran, as, unlike Israel, we are parties to the NPT,» Medvedev stated in a message posted on the social network X.
Furthermore, Medvedev highlighted that the Treaty on Measures for the Further Reduction and Limitation of Strategic Offensive Arms between the Russian Federation and the United States remains in force.
