Preview Russia to Deploy 30 GLONASS Facilities Across 16 Countries and Antarctica

Russia is planning to establish 30 ground-based facilities for its GLONASS satellite navigation system in 16 different countries as well as Antarctica, according to a statement from the Roscosmos state corporation`s press service.

The announcement follows the recent commissioning of a GLONASS measurement station in Venezuela on Friday.

The addition of the station in Venezuela will significantly benefit the GLONASS system. It will enable the monitoring of the status of GLONASS spacecraft located in the equatorial zone of the Western Hemisphere. This expansion is expected to improve positioning accuracy for users and increase the system`s overall coverage area by 3.11%.
