Study Reveals 67% of Companies Compromised in Less Than 24 Hours
A significant portion of the Russian business sector exhibits a high degree of vulnerability to cybercriminals. According to the findings of the study «Unacceptable Event 2025. Digital Crash Test of Russian Business,» conducted by «Kiberispytanie» (part of the Siberus fund), this issue is widespread across the country`s economy.
The comprehensive `cyber tests` involved 74 organizations from nine key sectors of the Russian economy. These included critical areas such as IT, retail, scientific and consulting entities, manufacturing facilities, as well as financial and insurance institutions. All tests were conducted in an expedited format, giving `white hat` hackers up to three months to execute sophisticated scenarios designed to disrupt or halt a company`s operations.
Notably, the speed and ease of breaches were alarming: over two-thirds of the simulated attacks — specifically 67 percent — were successfully completed in less than 24 hours. This achievement was particularly concerning as their execution did not even require highly specialized skills from the researchers. The quickest recorded `breach` incident took a mere 34 minutes, highlighting severe security gaps.
More than 1,500 cybersecurity researchers participated in this extensive project, with 26 individuals receiving monetary rewards for their successful efforts. The compensation varied, with the maximum payout reaching 5.6 million rubles, the average reward standing at 700,000 rubles, and the minimum being 300,000 rubles.
In related news, reports have previously surfaced identifying the alleged organizers behind a large-scale hacker campaign targeting Russia. According to information provided by Russian hacktivists, the pro-Ukrainian group known as Hacken is believed to be responsible for these cyberattacks.
