According to the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD), telephone scammers predominantly impersonate government officials. The ministry stated this in its «Bulletin of Russian Cyberpolice» Telegram channel, specifying that common disguises include representatives from the MVD, Federal Security Service (FSB), Roskomnadzor (RKN), and Rosfinmonitoring.
Analyzing data from the past two weeks, the MVD found that «law enforcement agencies and executive authorities (MVD, FSB, RKN, Rosfinmonitoring)» were the most frequent impersonations, accounting for 50 percent of cases.
The ministry also noted that scammers frequently pretend to be employees of commercial banks, management companies, Multifunctional Centers (MFCs), social services, and insurance companies.
Previously, the MVD had warned about evolving scam techniques targeting Russian citizens. The ministry reported an increase in the use of phishing websites, particularly those mimicking online shopping platforms and investment services, to defraud individuals.
