The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD) of Russia has issued a public warning regarding a fraudulent scheme. According to the MVD, con artists are posing as employees of military enlistment offices in order to trick citizens and steal sensitive data, specifically login codes for the State Services portal, widely known as «Gosulugi».
Details shared on the MVD`s Telegram channel, «Vestnik Kiberpolitsii Rossii», reveal the tactics used by these fraudsters. They reportedly contact individuals, often using messenger applications like WhatsApp, claiming to be military personnel. Their pretexts include assisting with the processing of military registration documents or verifying personal information purportedly required by the military office.
During these deceptive conversations, the scammers request what they describe as an «electronic queue number». This request is a ruse; the number they are actually seeking is the one-time authorization code that allows access to a user`s Gosulugi account. By obtaining this code, the criminals can compromise the victim`s digital identity and access services or data linked to their Gosulugi profile.
The MVD explicitly cautioned the public, stating: «We remind you that state authorities, including military enlistment offices, do not make calls or initiate contact through messenger applications.» This statement highlights a key indicator for people to recognize potential fraud.
This warning follows previous alerts from the authorities concerning other types of scams, such as those related to the state final exams (OGE and EGE), where fraudsters attempted to defraud students by promising guaranteed chances to retake the tests.
