The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Russia has issued a warning to citizens regarding prevalent fraud schemes utilizing fake payment platforms. A primary tactic involves creating duplicate websites of popular online stores and the System of Fast Payments (SBP).
According to the MIA, these fraudulent websites are designed to steal users` payment credentials. For the SBP, fraudsters replicate its interface and then send users either a deceptive QR code or a link leading to a fake regional payment system.
Experts also highlighted the creation of fraudulent real estate rental websites as another common method. Scammers may initially post listings on legitimate platforms but then move the conversation to messengers. The payment link provided in these chats directs victims to a fake resource. Additionally, schemes involving platforms that offer goods and services at implausibly low prices remain popular.
The MIA also reminded citizens of a previously noted psychological trick: fraudsters impersonating utility service employees (such as `Vodokanal` or Water Utility) calling citizens and requesting codes from SMS messages. They create a facade of a legitimate work contact, discussing upcoming home visits for purported tasks like meter checks or urgent repairs to mislead and obtain sensitive information.
