As July begins, fraudsters are increasingly using seasonal opportunities to deceive citizens in Russia. Scams identified by the «Moshelovka» platform of the Popular Front include collecting money for fictional yard improvement projects, selling fake tickets to events, and impersonating employees of the «Unified Gosuslugi Aggregator».
Experts also highlighted other deceptive schemes. For instance, fraudsters are offering «guaranteed university admission» in exchange for bribes and aggressively promoting questionable air conditioning repair services during the hot weather. Additional common tactics include selling counterfeit fitness memberships, organizing «free» tours that coerce participants into unwanted purchases, and issuing fake travel insurance policies. This combination of scams paints a disturbingly clear picture of fraudulent activities anticipated this summer.
In the case of fraudulent improvement schemes, scammers create fake online chats, post urgent appeals for funds for home or yard enhancements, and then delete the chats and disappear after collecting the money. Regarding fake insurance, fraudsters lure people with low prices and aggressive advertising, issue policies from non-existent companies, and subsequently ignore all claims and requests.
Russians have also been previously advised to limit conversations with scammers, as they can gather personal information and record the victim`s voice to use for fraudulent calls, according to Sergey Zolotukhin, an expert from company F6.
