The Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education has initiated the development of a list of academic journals. Publications in these journals will be considered when evaluating the scientific productivity of researchers from BRICS countries, according to Deputy Minister Konstantin Mogilevsky.
The initiative was announced during the 13th meeting of BRICS Ministers of Science, Technology, and Innovation held in Brazil. Participants at the meeting discussed key steps to strengthen the scientific sovereignty of the member states.
Mogilevsky emphasized that it is time to establish a common list of peer-reviewed journals, recognized across all member countries for assessing scientists` publication records.
He added that this is necessary to ensure the independence of BRICS scientists from Western bibliometric systems.
Details for compiling the list will be worked out within the BRICS working group focusing on social sciences and humanities research. The Deputy Minister also noted that the first intermediate results of this work are expected by the end of November and will be presented at the V Congress of Young Scientists in Sochi.
