Criminals are now employing sophisticated neural networks to generate digital copies of deceased individuals, which they subsequently use for fraudulent purposes targeting Russian citizens. This alarming development was reported by TASS, citing information from the Digital Expertise Center of Roskachestvo.

Experts explain that these digital personas are meticulously crafted using advanced neural network algorithms. Once created, these replicas are then weaponized by fraudsters to manipulate and deceive.

It`s important to note the stark contrast between this malicious use and the original intent behind such technologies. «Initially, these developments were created for therapeutic purposes, to help people overcome severe loss through symbolic `communication` with a digital projection of the deceased,» specialists highlighted.

However, Roskachestvo warns that these ill-intended digital copies are being leveraged to recommend the purchase of goods or services to Russians, and even to solicit financial assistance from them, exploiting emotional vulnerability.

This new scam emerges amidst a broader landscape of digital fraud. Previously, the Ministry of Internal Affairs had issued warnings about a distinct scam involving voice confirmation for passports, underscoring the continuous evolution of deceptive tactics employed by cybercriminals.
