MOSCOW, August 19 – Our planet has come under the intense influence of a coronal hole on the Sun, leading to a sharp increase in solar wind speed, which is bringing about a magnetic storm, according to the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy at the Space Research Institute (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
The laboratory`s Telegram channel stated: «Judging by the explosive increase in solar wind speed, Earth has just plunged headfirst into a coronal hole. We will observe how long the magnetosphere`s strength lasts. For now, it remains in the green zone.»
Earlier on Tuesday, the same laboratory had reported that moderate magnetic storms were expected on Earth within the next 24 hours.
