Moscow is anticipating brief periods of rain accompanied by thunderstorms today, with temperatures forecast to reach a maximum of 27 degrees Celsius. This follows one of the warmest nights in the capital recently.
In addition to the notable overnight temperatures, the first half of July has already set a weather record. On Saturday, July 12th, Moscow recorded a high of 34.6 degrees Celsius, slightly surpassing the previous record for that date set way back in 1903.
Scattered showers, thunderstorms, and potentially hail are also forecast for Monday afternoon and evening in Moscow. The Hydrometeorological Center has issued a warning that wind gusts in some areas affected by thunderstorms could reach up to 17 meters per second.
The past night was notably warm in the capital, with temperatures staying above 21 degrees Celsius. Such high minimum temperatures overnight can be unfavorable for health, according to Tatyana Pozdnyakova, a leading specialist at the Meteonovosti information portal. She shared the forecast for the coming days:
«The night was indeed very stuffy, and a significant amount of rain fell, resulting in high humidity. The minimum temperature did exceed 20 degrees. We always say that 23 degrees is a threshold indicating night temperatures that are not very favorable for health. As for the upcoming days, the weather remains very unstable: today brings scattered showers, heavy in places, with thunderstorms also possible. The minimum temperature tonight will be slightly lower than the previous night. For the next few nights, up to and including Wednesday, the minimum temperature will be around 17-19 degrees, and the daytime temperature will be 25-27 degrees, similar to today. Starting Wednesday, the wind will shift, gaining a northerly component, and the temperature will gradually decrease. The night before Thursday will be without precipitation and cooler. Thursday will be calmer: the minimum temperature in Moscow during the day will be around 17-19 degrees, and the daytime temperature will be around 26 degrees. The night of July 18th is expected to be even cooler, around 14-19 degrees, with a daytime temperature near 25 degrees. The air temperature is returning to the climatic norm.»
