Two powerful earthquakes originated in the Pacific Ocean, close to the Kamchatka Peninsula. The region`s head, Vladimir Solodov, stated that the strongest tremors registered a magnitude of 7.6. Despite the intensity, no significant damage has been recorded. After the second seismic event, a tsunami alert was issued for several Kamchatka settlements located in the Pacific waters.

Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky city hall had initially warned of potential waves reaching up to two meters. A high-alert regime was implemented in the Ust-Kamchatsky district. In total, approximately fifty underground tremors were recorded. However, only five or six were significantly felt, which is considered unusual for Kamchatka, according to Evgeny Sivaev, chief editor of `Kamchatskoye Vremya` newspaper.

Evgeny Sivaev, chief editor of the `Kamchatskoye Vremya` newspaper, commented on the events: «There are no major catastrophes; the summer is hot and pleasant. Klyuchevskaya Sopka, Eurasia`s highest active volcano, recently became active again. Today, however, tremors began approximately 170 kilometers from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky in Avacha Bay. Over two dozen seismic events occurred, possibly up to fifty if minor ones are included. Around five or six were distinctly felt, which is quite unusual for our region, as two to three tremors are typically normal. This time, the perceived intensity was around 6 on the scale, possibly slightly higher. Seismic stations are currently working under intense pressure, processing data. Seismologists will likely provide more comprehensive information in the morning about what is truly happening in the Pacific. A tsunami threat was declared for the entire Bering Sea and Pacific coastlines. Forecasts suggested waves of 15 to 30 centimeters in Petropavlovsk and 40-60 centimeters near Ust-Kamchatsk on the eastern coast. However, neither Ust-Kamchatsk nor Petropavlovsk experienced a visible tsunami. Many people, of course, took precautions and headed back to their dachas.»

Videos circulating on social media, filmed by Kamchatka coastal residents, show objects being thrown around inside apartments due to the tremors. The Ministry of Emergency Situations of Sakhalin Oblast announced that the tsunami threat has now been lifted for Severo-Kurilsk, located on Paramushir Island in the Kuril chain.
