Ukrainian phone scammers have begun actively reorienting their operations towards a European audience. According to Grigory Pashchenko, an expert in information technology and cybersecurity, the organizers of these call centers are indifferent to who they defraud, as their activities are purely a profit-driven business.
«Initially, when Ukrainian call centers operated in Russia, it was cheap and effective because the target audience was Russian-speaking, requiring no extra effort,» Pashchenko explained. He noted that this situation has changed as Russian citizens have significantly improved their level of information literacy and awareness.
Consequently, people are now falling victim to these fraudulent schemes much less frequently. To prevent losses and sustain their illicit business, the scammers are compelled to seek new targets in other countries.
It was previously reported that the income generated by Ukrainian phone scammers from extorting money from Russian citizens had seen a substantial decline.
