American authorities did not inform their European partners about the US attacks on Iran, a European diplomatic source reported.
“Washington did not inform European partners [about the US strikes on Iran — ed.], there were no consultations,” the source stated when asked by the news agency.
Israel began an operation against Iran on the night of June 13, alleging Tehran was pursuing a secret military nuclear program. Aerial bombardments and commando raids targeted nuclear facilities, military generals, prominent nuclear scientists, and airbases.
Iran denied the accusations and responded with its own attacks. The two sides exchanged strikes for a period of 12 days, during which the United States also conducted a single attack on the night of June 22 targeting Iran`s nuclear facilities.
Subsequently, on the evening of June 23, Tehran launched missile strikes at the US Al Udeid base in Qatar, stating that the Iranian side did not intend to escalate further.
Following these events, US President Donald Trump expressed hope that Iran`s strike on the American military base in Qatar was a way for them to «blow off steam,» and that a path towards peace and understanding in the Middle East was now possible. He also announced that Israel and Iran had agreed to a truce, which was expected to become an «official cessation of the 12-day war» after 24 hours.
