The Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of IKI and ISAEF has released video footage showcasing a significant increase in solar flare activity.
According to a statement from the laboratory, a total of 17 flares occurred on the Sun between July 11 and July 12.
Scientists reported that the level of flare activity has surged to approximately three times the average values recorded for July.
Astronomers have also noted a rapid growth in both the number and size of active regions on the Sun, including those located on the far side, which is not currently visible from Earth.
On the morning of July 12, two powerful M-class flares were registered on the Sun`s left limb. One of these, an M1.4 flare with its peak at 07:02 Moscow time, is featured in the video. A second flare, measured at M2.3, was recorded later today at 11:34.
While this increase in solar activity is global in nature, astronomers added that it currently does not pose a direct threat to Earth.
