According to the World Health Organization (WHO), over 80% of all fatalities in Russia are attributed to cardiovascular diseases, malignant neoplasms (cancers), chronic respiratory conditions, and diabetes mellitus. This critical information was disclosed by Batyr Berdyklychev, the head of the WHO office in Moscow, during an interview with RIA Novosti.

Mr. Berdyklychev underscored the importance of recognizing the various risk factors that contribute significantly to the onset and progression of these severe health issues. These common factors include tobacco smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, high blood pressure, an elevated intake of dietary salt, an unhealthy and unbalanced diet, and environmental air pollution.

The WHO representative further highlighted that robust public health initiatives, such as the enforcement of stricter legislation regarding tobacco use and the introduction of comprehensive strategies aimed at reducing alcohol consumption, have played a crucial role in contributing to an observable increase in the average life expectancy across the Russian population.
