Donald Trump suggested halting diesel exports, stating, "Let's not export the diesel." He announced this on Tuesday on the sidelines of the UN General Debate in New York. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is reviewing the feasibility of an export ban concerning overall refinery capacity and whether a full or partial prohibition would be effective.
"We produce a lot of diesel," Trump added during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. He acknowledged that an export ban could also "have a bit of an effect on regular gasoline for cars." The US last imposed broad restrictions on crude oil exports during the oil crisis of the 1970s to lower domestic prices.
