Robert Habeck, 57, has refuted claims he intends to launch a new political party. "There's nothing to it," he stated during an appearance on the ARD program "Caren Miosga."
The show's host brought up a rumor, first reported by journalists Robin Alexander and Dagmar Rosenfeld on their political podcast. The podcast suggested speculation in Berlin about Habeck and former Transport Minister Volker Wissing potentially forming a new party, possibly attracting a defector from the CDU. The podcast noted these rumors were circulating in Berlin.
Habeck mentioned hearing this specific rumor "about a hundred times" before the program. He received numerous messages asking about the validity of these speculations. "No, and I can explain at length why I find this idea nonsensical. But to be brief: No, there's nothing to it."
When asked by Miosga if he remained loyal to his current party, Habeck replied, "Yes."
Earlier, Miosga had inquired if he planned to return to politics. "I cannot imagine that at the moment," he responded. "There are no plans, no strategies, and no desire to return to politics."
Habeck's new book, "Arctic Meltdown: The Reshaping of the World," which examines global powers' interests in the Arctic, is set for release on Thursday. He indicated he would be busy in the coming weeks and months presenting the discourse surrounding the book on various platforms. As for what follows? "Perhaps I'll write the next one," Habeck commented.
Habeck retired from politics in late summer 2025. In July of this year, it was announced he would be working as a consultant for the Danish investment firm Urban Partners.
