Johann Wadephul suggested that Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov's statement, made on the election day in Saxony-Anhalt, might have been intended to sow further uncertainty. Wadephul stated, "We must deal with the fact that this Russian government is trying to influence our society through all the means available to it." However, he emphasized that Germany will not be intimidated.

Wadephul also described Lavrov's remarks as "an expression of a certain Russian desperation." He noted that the war in Ukraine "was supposed to be over in a few days – and now it's in its fifth year."

Following a three-day pause, Russia recently resumed its attacks on the Ukrainian capital. Rescue services reported that five people died and 35 were injured. According to government officials, drones and missiles damaged at least 14 high-rise buildings.
